Baptism at St. Bridget’s, Isleworth

Baptism is the first step in the journey of faith — a beautiful beginning of new life in Christ.

It is not only a joyful moment for the family, but also a sacred celebration for the whole Church, filled with hope, grace, and thanksgiving.

We are delighted to accompany you and your family on this important step.

1. Infant Baptism (Up to 6 Years Old)

Infant Baptism is offered for children from birth up to the age of six.

Parents are warmly invited to begin the process by completing the Baptism enquiry form and taking time to read the Infant Baptism booklet, which will guide you through the meaning of the sacrament and the preparation required.

Once we receive your form, one of our priests will get in touch with you to arrange a meeting and guide you through the next steps.

This will also be your opportunity to ask questions and discuss any details.

Important Information

1. Faith Requirement

• At least one parent and one godparent must be Catholic.

2. Baptism Preparation

• Parents are required to attend a short preparation session before the baptism.

3. Documents Needed

• Child’s birth certificate

• One parent’s Catholic Baptism certificate

• One Godparents’ Baptism certificates

• If you are not a parishioner of St. Bridget’s, a letter of permission from your local parish priest.

2. Baptism for Children (Aged 7–17)

For children aged seven and above, the Church asks that they receive proper catechetical preparation before being baptised.

At St Bridget’s, children in this age group are prepared through one of the following parish programmes:

  • First Holy Communion Programme
  • Confirmation Programme

Key Information:

  • Registration: October to December
  • Programme duration: January to May/June

Baptism will take place at an appropriate point during the programme, before the celebration of First Holy Communion or Confirmation.

At present, this is the only pathway we are able to offer for children of this age. While some parishes may have alternative or specialised programmes, we do not currently have the resources to provide a separate course. Parents are, of course, free to enquire at other parishes if they prefer.

3. Adult Baptism (Aged 18 and Above)

Adults who wish to be baptised are prepared through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

  • Enquiry and registration: from October
  • Programme period: October to April
  • Baptism: celebrated at the Easter Vigil
